Free consumer accounts and paid business accounts have materially different data processing terms. Disabling model training is one setting — it does not answer questions about data retention, staff access at the provider, processing location, or subprocessors.

What professional duties require

If your business handles client confidences, legal privilege, or personal data under UK GDPR, you need a Data Processing Agreement and clarity on where data is stored and who can access it — not just a training opt-out toggle.

Interim mitigation

Use placeholder text instead of real client names and identifying details when testing AI tools that have not yet been formally approved.
